1.7 Art Nouveau architecture in Brussels

Brussels is studded with gems of Art Nouveau architecture. We propose an extended coach tour with several stops to take a close-up look at the details of the houses.

We start in the Louisa/Saint Gilles quarter, birthplace of Art Nouveau in Brussels. Your guide will explain why Art Nouveau became so important in Brussels and will show you the amazing creations of its greatest architects. Built by Victor Horta, the Hotel Tassel, the Hotel Solvay, and his own house (the Horta Museum) are the epitomes of this architecture. They fit perfectly with the creations of other great names as Hankar, Van Rijsselberghe, Brunfaut, Vizzavona and others.

The ponds of the Ixelles district is the area of the architects Delune and Blerot. These two dynasties stand at the cradle of two different interpretations of Art Nouveau. Furthermore, in the Jubilee Park area, your guide will show you the beginnings and the full development of Horta, the exuberance of Strauven, the extraordinary Stoclet mansion built by Joseph Hoffmann, founder of the “Wiener Werkstäte”  the turning point between Art Nouveau and Art Deco.

Optional possibility to visit the Horta Museum with your guide.
